Health and Wellness


We are committed to our part in limiting the spread of the COVID - 19.  As an essential service, we will remain open and active, with the exception of the following in-person Health and Wellness programs: Blood Pressure, Foot Clinics, In-person (indoor) Falls Prevention and Exercise classes, Outdoor Pole Walking Instruction, Social Drop-In

Instead - we are now offering a variety of online exercise classes through Zoom.  

Falls Prevention and Exercise Classes

Exercise is the key to staying strong, energetic, and healthy as you get older, and it can even be fun, too!

We are currently unable to offer in-person classes in community centres and retirement homes because of the pandemic restrictions. However, we have a great line-up of classes you can take using Zoom.   Classes are offered free to residents of Peterborough County who are +55 years.  Donations to Community Care are most welcome.

  • Wellness Wednesdays: 1:00 – 1:45 p.m.
    • June 2: Join the Participaction Movement Challenge – Joining a group effort often helps us stay on track. In June, teams and individuals across Canada will take part in the Community Better Challenge. Our program has registered a team and we’d love for you to sign-up. Learn strategies to keep in shape over the summer – believe it or not most Canadians reduce their activity levels over the summer.
    • June 9: Meditation For People Who Say They Can’t Meditate - On world meditation day, join us for a selection of ways to calm a busy mind even if you think this isn’t possible for you.
    • June 16: Summer Reading Short Story Club – Let us know in advance if you plan to join and we’ll send you a fun short, short story. During the session we’ll discuss your impressions.
    • June 23: Ageless Grace Sensory Vacation with Karin DesChamp. Have fun while boosting your brain power.
    • June 30: Early Summer Cooking Special – Lots of delicious treats using local produce + make your own ice tea.
  • Fit Fore Golf: Mondays and Thursdays: 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.
    • Stretches and strengtheners designed to help golfers with all aspects of their games.

  • Pole Walking
    Walking poles help many people walk more comfortably because they take some of the strain off lower back, hips, knees and ankles. We have some good quality poles for sale. If you'd like help selecting the right ones and purchasing a pair, please contact Sheila through this link here.

We love seeing you in our classes and hope you enjoy the many benefits.  We offer these free classes to everyone +55 years throughout the City and County of Peterborough and we gratefully accept donations so that we may continue to do that.

Pole Walking - Canceled due to pandemic restrictions

Our Pole Walking groups in Ennismore, Lakefield and Buckhorn are cancelled because of group size limits for outdoor organized activities established by the Ontario Government. We will let you know when the groups are able to start-up again.

In the meantime, we encourage you to enjoy the benefits of outdoor exercise by walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or skating while physically distancing. 

If you'd like to borrow or buy a pair of walking poles, please contact the instructor, Michelle Holdforth.


Join Michelle for invigorating, physical distance exercise in the great outdoors. No registration required. Sanitized poles available or bring your own. Wear sturdy boots and dress for the weather. Some terrain may be snow-covered and uneven. Classes will take place on Dec. 28, 29, 30, 2020 and in January 2021.

Mondays         2:00 - 3:00 p.m.: Buckhorn - John Earle ChaseTrails

Tuesdays        2:00 - 3:00 p.m.: Chemung - Ennismore Heritage Trails (981 Ennis Rd)  (New location starts Jan. 5)

Wednesdays   10:00 - 11:00 a.m.: Lakefield - Speed Skating Oval Trails
