Celebrating 60 Years of Meals on Wheels - From the Broadcast Booth to Community Impact: Gary Dalliday’s Enduring Influence
May 8th, 2025

Gary Dalliday was more than just a voice for local sports—he was a cornerstone of the Peterborough community. His natural ability to unite people, whether through his charismatic broadcasting or his personal involvement in causes close to his heart, defined his legacy. As a beloved sports broadcaster for over 30 years, Gary’s voice was synonymous with the thrill of local sports, especially lacrosse and hockey. But it was his genuine connection with people—his listeners, fellow athletes, and the community—that truly set him apart.

Gary’s commitment to his hometown was never limited to the broadcast booth. He was just as likely to be found coaching youth hockey or volunteering for local events. His community spirit extended beyond sports, as seen through his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, a cause dear to his heart. Inspired by his grandson Nick, who had also volunteered, Gary became part of a team that delivered not just meals but also care and companionship to those in need.

When Gary passed in 2018, his family wanted to honor his legacy. The idea for the Gary Dalliday Memorial "Caring for Our Communities" Golf Tournament was originally conceived by Nick, as a way to celebrate his grandfather’s life and impact. In 2022, this heartfelt tribute became a reality, bringing together Gary’s family with the community that loved him.

The tournament wasn’t just about raising funds—it was about creating a lasting legacy for Gary. Through the event, funds were directed to Meals on Wheels, a vital program which directly benefits the community that Gary had dedicated so much of his life to. The tournament created a space for people from all walks of life—friends, family, colleagues, and local businesses—to unite in the spirit of giving, just as Gary had always done.

Much like Gary’s enduring presence at local sporting events and his ability to bring people together, the tournament has grown into a symbol of unity. It’s more than just a fundraiser; it’s a testament to the power of community and the lasting impact of a man whose passion for giving back continues to inspire those around him.

Gary’s influence is still felt today, not only through the golf tournament, but in the continued work of Meals on Wheels, where his volunteer legacy lives on. His family, including his children Tim, Krista, and Pete, and his grandson Nick, continue to carry the torch of service that Gary once lit. With every swing of the club at the annual tournament, Gary’s spirit of connection and community is honored, reminding us all of the power of coming together for a good cause.
