We are a Canadian registered charity with a volunteer-based Board of Directors that is legally responsible for the governance of our organization. Within that mandate, our board develops, implements, and monitors policies that allow our organization to carry out its work.
Board members are also the fiduciaries who steer an organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, legal governance, and financial management policies, as well as by making sure their nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.
We are fortunate to have so many skilled and caring individuals who serve as our Board Members. This month we will feature Board Member, Anda Rungis.
Anda Rungis has a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo. She has spent over four decades in the public services within multiple positions across the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government. Her work has focused on implementing programs related to the management of natural resources and sustainable community development, including strategic planning, organizational change and project management.
Anda lives in the city of Peterborough, and also serves as a Director of the Peterborough Field Naturalists organization, and enjoys exploring the city and surrounding the area by bike, kayak, and foot. She also enjoys gardening and has a small urban garden that she calls “a huge source of inspiration and projects.”
So why is someone who has spent their working life in the natural resources field interested in being a Board Member at Community Care?
“During the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic the importance of community programs and access to resources became obvious to me,” said Anda Rungis. “I made a decision to get involved and help build and support community in Peterborough. I was drawn to Community Care upon hearing the wonderful testimonials that my friends and acquaintances about their experiences with the agency.”
Anda Rungis’ experience in public service and community development makes her an excellent addition to the Community Care Peterborough Board Members. Anda’s work and volunteer time gives her an understanding of the importance of building up the programs and services to best help clients be supported to live independently in their own home.
