Meet Our Past President - Joanne Watson
February 3rd, 2021

Joanne Watson has an Honours BASc from the University of Guelph.  She also holds certificates in Adult Education, Staff Training and Development (Honours) from Seneca College and Fundamental Healthcare Accounting from the Ontario Hospital Association.

Following a 32 year career in health care management which spanned acute care, long-term care and community care and holding positions as the Past Chair Quality Advisory Council for the Canadian College of Health Service Executives. (Now Canadian College of Health Leaders), Joanne joined the Board of Community Care Peterborough in 2013.

“I am a “systems thinker”, constantly looking at how improvements can be made across the continuum of care,” said Joanne Watson.  “This includes how to better support seniors and those with disabilities to live healthy and safe lives within their community.”

A resident of Peterborough, Joanne has served on Community Care’s Board of Directors for 8 years, serving on various Board committees, becoming the President in the fiscal year 2018/2019 and becoming Past President in 2020/2021.  Joanne is in her second year of a two-year term as Past President.

Why is a health care professional interested in Community Care?

“I am a firm believer that seniors should be supported to live in the community for as long as possible,” added Joanne.  “I understand their wish to remain independent and I value the role that agencies such as Community Care Peterborough play in meeting this wish, especially during these unprecedented times.”
