Mayor Smith participated in “Mayors For Meals” Day in Lakefield March 8th
March 9th, 2018

Lakefield office is pleased to announce that Mayor Mary Smith participated in the 2018 “Mayors For Meals” Day to show her support for community seniors.

Mayor Smith joined 5 other volunteers today to deliver Meals on Wheels to clients living in their own homes.  “Meals on Wheels is much more than a hot, nutritious, meal – it’s personal contact from someone who cares” said Danielle Belair, Executive Director of Community Care.   Recently a family member expressed the following “God Bless you all.  The meals have allowed Mom to stay in her home this past year.”

Community Care volunteers deliver some 30-40 hot meals every week to seniors and adults with physical challenges living in Lakefield and area.

Begun as an annual event in the United States to increase public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding for Meals on Wheels organizations, the program extended to Ontario in 2009. Mayors from around the country will be asked to help deliver meals with their local Senior Nutrition Program to seniors in their community.  In Peterborough, Meals on Wheels has been providing meals to local seniors since 1964.  The hot meals are prepared by Compass Ltd. at Trent University.
