History
Community Care Peterborough has grown considerably over the last 20 years maintaining their deep roots in this community.
The amalgamation between Peterborough County Community Care and the Peterborough Senior Citizens Council created the Senior Citizens Council Peterborough ‘Serving County and City’. A Board of Directors made up of ten people from the County and ten people from the City was formed.
We are unique in this community. We led the way in showing the community at large that amalgamations can work. It takes patience, compromise and goodwill on the part of the volunteers, clients and staff. This was evident in 1998, when two services previously housed with another agency; Transportation and Friendly Visiting Service were transferred to us.
At the annual meeting in June 1999 the membership approved by-law changes. Our Board size was reduced from 20 to 17 and the name of the agency changed to Community Care Peterborough. The name more clearly reflects what we do.
On April 1, 2004, Meal on Wheels Peterborough was officially transferred to Community Care Peterborough. This created a single meal delivery program for Peterborough City and County.
Our agency offers a range of practical support services designed to help the frail elderly and people with physical challenges accomplish the tasks of everyday living.
Community Care Peterborough hinges on the support and dedication of 900 volunteers, who along with 21 staff members, provide programs and services to help over 4,000 clients in the City and County of Peterborough remain independent in their homes….where they want to be! Without volunteers, none of this would be possible.
